NC-v4 EAp2:Minimum energy performance

Using RCR calculation in an open office.

All,

I am currently working on a office facility/building. When i tried to do the LPD calculation for Energy simulation. I came across few doubts listed below.

The project has open office area in each floors. the office area have passage, discussion area, collaboration area etc but not separated by walls. Also, there are separate conference and meeting rooms in the project.

I am trying to understand the following.

1. Is it allowed to take advantage of RCR calculation in the open office space by separating(as sub spaces) the discussion area, passage and collaboration area separately? please note that, these areas in the open office plan is not separated by walls and are served by a single/same system.

2. If i take credit of RCR calculation by splitting the office areas into spaces and subspace, should my energy model reflect the same in terms of 3D modelling and simulation. i.e. 3D model shall also have these sub spaces separated? or can i add the LPD total of RCR calculation and input that in the 3D model as a single input for the whole open office area?

3. Is it allowed to take credit for other spaces enclosed by walls like meeting rooms. conference rooms etc? i am opting for Space by space method.

Any response is much appreciated.

1. It appears that you are allowed to break up spaces, see Section 9.6.1. 2. You could create a zone for each subspace or add them up and use a weighted average for the whole space. Depends on how you set up your model. 3. Yes you can do so under the space-by-space method. Sections 9.6.1 through 9.6.3 are pretty clear.
