Hello Green Gurus,
Here is the information for August's Peer Networks Webinar, Using a Circular Economy as a Framework for Zero Waste, Zero Energy + Zero Carbon. We hope you will join us!
Using a Circular Economy as a Framework for Zero Waste, Zero Energy + Zero Carbon
Monday, August 23rd, 2021
2pm - 3pm ET (11am - 12pm PT)
Description
While 2020 was a crazy year for many reasons, it also hosted the passing of a grim milestone: human-made stuff now exceeds all living biomass on Earth. We’ve been slowly turning all of the natural resources on the planet into landfill in the dumbest and most wasteful way. We need a new model for making things.
The Circular Economy is an alternative approach to how we make things that looks at zero-waste, zero-emissions approach to design and manufacturing. It redesigns the traditional linear approach to manufacturing of “TAKE>MAKE>WASTE” and loops it into a healthy, regenerative, and renewable approach. For buildings, it gives us a framework to rethink and redesign our approach to materials and waste. It also shows us how to apply these ideas to a district or campus scale to achieve zero carbon and zero waste affordably.
In this discussion, we’ll explore how to take something as complex as a university campus and create a clear pathway to eliminating and designing out waste and zeroing out emissions. We’ll explore how to use LEED, WELL, and True to coordinate with the established principles of the Circular Economy to set a roadmap to achieve these bold targets.
We’ll also show how movements like Cradle to Cradle, Natural Capitalism, Biomimicry, and regenerative design work their way into the Circular Economy and connect back to systems like LEED and WELL.
Hear from Sustainable Design Leader Eric Corey Freed, author of the brand new bestselling book "Circular Economy for Dummies" on how this framework can be applied to your work to achieve some amazing sustainability outcomes.
This presentation is set up as a Zoom meeting (rather than a true webinar) to facilitate conversation. Audience participation will not be mandatory, but it will be welcomed!
