2 - 3pm ET (11am - 12pm PT) Description: mindful MATERIALS (mM) recently announced its plans to launch a software solution that will integrate a consistent framework for sustainability in decision-making across the built environment through its new Portal set to launch at Greenbuild in November. This new Portal will digitize the Common Materials Framework (CMF), which was recently adopted by the American Institute of Architects as a means for those A&D that have signed the materials pledge to know what products help them meet their pledge commitments. Through this effort mM is working to amplify the amazing work of the industry to date and facilitating a collaborative network of ecosystem partners to build out critical data points to populate the digitized CMF in this new Portal. This will enable a streamlined approach to manufacturer data management into the Portal via tools such as Toxnot PBC and Health Product Declaration Collaborative’s Builder, EC3, among others. Together, these measures are designed to activate product sustainability data globally, ultimately allowing for benchmarking and reduction of the holistic embodied impacts of buildings through more mindful materials decisions. mM’s team will review in more details the updates to mindful MATERIALs and how this work will greatly support the community in enabling sustainable materials as the norm and not the option. Annie doesn't just want to talk about sustainable impact, she wants to facilitate action to create large scale change, using sustainability as a strategic business enabler. She does this in her role as CEO of mindful MATERIALS. mindful MATERIAL's mission is to reverse the embodied impacts of the built environment by driving the use of regenerative and restorative building products that meet an industry-aligned framework for health, sustainability, and resilience. mindful MATERIALS furthers its mission through a global cross-sector collaboration hub which has developed the Common Materials Framework, which is digitized through its Portal and connected to industry tools, resources, education, and advocacy for the greater benefit of all. Jack Dinning, Project Manager, Materials Specialist, Brightworks Sustainability (and mM contracted team member) Jack Dinning is a Project Manager and Materials Specialist at Brightworks Sustainability. With a background in architecture and materials sustainability, Jack is passionate about developing replicable strategies that can align industry leaders in material health-related efforts. He works to empower designers to improve the sustainability of materials in their own work. Jack has been deeply involved in education related to material health education, both in the higher education space and among industry practitioners. Jack’s experience has had a particular focus on supporting architects that are serving vulnerable populations, including affordable housing residents, fenceline communities, and those who are most affected by the toxic chemicals in building materials. Jack’s work has earned industry recognition, including an invitation to the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit, the Alpha Rho Chi Medal for leadership and professional merit, and election to the inaugural class of AIANY’s Civic Leadership Program. Jack holds a Master of Architecture from Parsons School of Design and Bachelor of Arts (Architectural Studies) from Middlebury College. Jack is also a part of the mindful Materials contracted team as the Director of Materials. As part of this mM team, Jack facilitated the industry development of the Common Materials Framework.
