My project is interested in installing turf grass indoors. The product reads like flooring with treated yarns, solid backing, pile heights, etc. Is there any reason to think this product would be exempt from the flooring category?
Also is there any reason there is no discussion of the flooring category in the LEED documentation requirements on this forum? Flooring substrates, grouts and adhesives that we would previously have included with flooring no longer appear to be required in this category. So we are assuming if the project is not pursuing any wet applied products but is pursuing flooring, the only requirement would be for the surface layer. That is a break from previous LEED rating systems. Are we correct?

Hi Michelle-
You're correct that if you're pursuing option 1 for Flooring but not Adhesives and Sealants, your Flooring Adhesives, Sealants and Grouts don't need to comply. However if you're pursuing option 2, the Flooring System includes these things and more. I can't imagine an argument for exempting the artificial turf grass flooring - which can be a pretty heavy off-gassing product - from compliance. It sounds like it would be categorized as a carpet. You may want to reach out to CRI (Carpet & Rug Institute) to see if they agree.
