We have a space about 5000 ft2 for about 160 people. It is a true open office; no cubicles, no walls, just long rows of tables & chairs. Could this be considered a single space for lighting (and thermal control)? It seems that there should be some individual controllability, but there is no way to reasonably sub-divide the space, and 160 desk lamps would be too expensive. Is IEQ c6.1 possible here?

David, if the occupants are working on the tasks individually, the individual control would be required. If they are working together on collaborative tasks, like in a conference or meeting room, a single set of controls for the entire space would be acceptable.

That is what I was thinking. They are each working away at their own computer on the bench. Of course giving each a desk light might disturb their neighbor just a few inches away who has no way to block the light coming from the next workstation. They are individual workstations, just all in a line on a single long picnic table. Unless you claim the entire room (5k ft2) to be a "meeting room". Would that work?
