Testing of Existing Old Roof Material

We would like to take a sample of 10 year old existing roofing and test it in a laboratory for the aged SRI value. It seems the ASTM E 1980 and CRRC-1 test methodology only deals with simulated aging. Is it acceptable to test existing truly aged materials?

Thanks very much,

Doug Snyder

Mr. Snyder, We have successfully achieved this credit by doing exactly that - had a piece of a dolomite aggregate roof tested at a building in San Francisco, CA to determine the SRI and pushed this through the LEED review process with no issues. Be sure to inquire with the testing agency how large a piece of the material needs to be submitted, there is a minimum sample size, and I believe there must be more than one sample sent.
