Hi, based on the LEED interpretation that recreational courts can be excluded from the Roof area calculation, would this mean that terraces which are being designed as recreational space for the building tenants therefore also be excluded from the roof calculation? It notes above that terraces and balconies must be included but if these spaces are being designed for recreation should these also be excluded? Your help would be appreciated.

I would reference LI 3126 with regard to terrace spaces. I understand that LI 10235 may leave some room for interpretation as to what is considered a "functional, usable space" but if your terrace matches the description of the terrace within LI 3126 you will default to that ruling. "The roof is what covers the building. The primary function of the terrace space in question is that of a roof, and so the area must be included in SS Credit 7.2 calculations." Also note that LI 10235 references specifically "recreation courts" not necessarily any areas considered recreational space.
