According to Tab.6.8.1I for test procedure for VRF systems we have to consider AHRI 1230. I’m considering AHRI 1230 version “Approved by ANSI on 2 August 2010”. As for heating for machines > 19kW, two different conditions are specified:
- Standard Rating Conditions (high temperature steady state heating): outdoor section, air cooled DB/WB 8.3/6.1°C
- Standard Rating Conditions (low temperature steady state heating): outdoor section, air cooled DB/WB -8.3/-9.4°C
Which one shall be considered in order to verify the compliance with Tab. 6.8.1I?

Now I see that Tab. 6.8.1 of ASHRAE 90.1-2010 requests COPc (cooling), not COPh... How is ICOP defined and in which conditions is that tested? I am not able to find that information in AHRI 1230.

What is the difference between the systems considered by TABLE 6.8.1I ("Electrically Operated Variable Refrigerant Flow Air Conditioners—Minimum Efficiency Requirements) and those ones considered by TABLE 6.8.1J ("Electrically Operated Variable Refrigerant Flow Air-to-Air and Applied Heat Pumps—Minimum Efficiency Requirements")?
Can the systems considered by TABLE 6.8.1I work in heating mode?

Not sure about the testing of the equipment. We usually get this information from the manufacturer.
Section 6.8.1I is for VRF air conditioners (cooling only) and 6.8.1J is for VRF heat pumps (heating and cooling). So 6.8.1I systems do not provide heating.
