Hospitality-NC-v4 EQc5:Thermal comfort

System without simultaneous Cooling and Heating

Dear All,

In the context of a hotel project pursuing LEED certification, the Owner is considering the possibility of adopting a HVAC system based on 2 pipe reversible air-to-water heat pumps (production of either chilled or hot water). This type of system does not allow simultaneously cooling and heating of different spaces, therefore some hours of discomfort may occur in a small percentage of area.

Is this type of HVAC system eligible for achieving Thermal Comfort Design Option 1 credit? Is there any criteria/range that would allow compliance with this type of system (ex.: assuring comfort conditions 95% of the time, 95% of the conditioned area)?

Thanks in advance,
