Hello, I am doing CI Retail project (LEED-CI 2009 EAc3 Case 1) and it includes dish washer and ice cube machine.
I understand that we have to have sub meters for process loads. I wonder if we need a sub meter which include all of lighting, HVAC and process loads, or do we need another meter for process electricity?

Under Case 1 you just need to meter energy use by fuel type, not by each energy end use.

There is an additional question.
How about water use? There is a water meter for all, like toilets, kitchen sink, dish washer, etc. in the tenant space. Do we need a sub meter especially for process water?

You do not need to submeter water. According to the credit language you do not even need to meter water. I think this used to be required in an earlier version of LEED but is not currently.

Actually Marcus, we did have to submeter process water on our last 2009 CI-Retail project. Convenience water does not need to be submetered but process water does. "Fuel oil, district or distributed energy sources, steam, chilled water, other fuels, and process water must be submetered. Water used for the convenience of occupants does not need to be submetered. This includes restrooms, changing facilities, water fountains, break rooms and janitorial uses." Commercial kitchens have high process water loads. If you have a house water meter and the majority of your water is process water with only minimal convenience water and you would in effect have to submeter the negligible convenience water to make this distinction, you have an argument.

Thanks for the correction Michelle. Yea, upon further review water is in the credit intent even though it is not in the requirement.
So Shoko if you do not have a commercial kitchen you would likely not need to submeter the water. What are the dishwasher and ice maker being used for? If they are in a break room or something similar they are not process water.

Thank you both for useful comments. Actually as the kitchen is commercial one for a small restaurant, I think it requires a meter for process water. At the moment there is a meter for whole tenant space and process water use is included in its measurement. According to Michelle's comment, it can be sufficient for credit's requirement!
