NC-v4 LTc7:Reduced parking footprint

Off street parking and on street parking

Gentlemen,

1. Could you please explain the following statement:

"Preferred parking is not required if no offstreet parking is provided".

2. What is difference between off street and on street parking? please provide example for offstreet parking and onstreet      parking.

Thanks

Hi Azaz, Good question! Offstreet parking refers to any parking provided on the project site, both surface parking and in parking structures. Onstreet parking is parking spaces in the public right-of-way, such as parallel or angled parking along the curb of a public street. I hope this clarifies things. Best, Alan

Hello, is underground parking included as off-street parking? thank you

Hi Carla.  Yes, underground parking dedicated to project occupants would be considered off-street parking, fitting into the category of "in parking structures" that Alan described above.

In my project, we have existing parking outside the LEED project boundary owned by the project. This existing parking are shared with the adjacent building but each building has its own parking space. Is this considered off street parking? and is it inclued in the caluculation of the credit (redued parking footprint)?

Hi Osman,

Based on your description above, if the existing parking is share among two or more building, then it is define as pool parking. And as states in LEED guide on page 112, for projects that use pooled parking, calculate compliance using the project’s share of the pooled parking.

It's simple, mate! If a shopping mall has a large parking lot with spaces for visitors to park their cars, it is an example of offstreet parking. On the other hand, parking spaces along a city street with time restrictions, where anyone can park their vehicles, exemplify onstreet parking. Hope this is helpful!
