Strategies to Adress Glare

Dear All,

in what relates to this credit, LEED V4.1 allows credit achievement in projects where spaces have ASE score higher than 10%. This can be achieved as long as it is identified “how the space was designed to address glare”.

In this particular project, all spaces are endowed with manual interior blinds (with low light transmission values). Can you please clarify if this is accepted to demonstrate credit compliance?

Thanks in advance

Hello Ricardo -  Curious if you submitted this credit with the manual blinds, and whether it was approved?

Hi Chris, yes, I can confirm that manual interior blinds were approved by LEED reviewers and we got the available points. Regards,

Hello Ricardo,  Was your ASE higher than 20% ? We are in a similar situation but our ASE is around 30% and we are wondering if our manual blinds will be accepted.  Thanks.

Hi Julie, yes, manual blinds are acceptable means of glare control for LEED.  In reality, depending on the space, it often means they will stay shut more often than needed so ideally the glare (sunlight exposure) can be mitigated through architectural strategies.
