NC-v4.1 SSc5:Heat Island Reduction

SSc6: Light Pollution Reduction - decomposed granite or local rock materials

Hi,

I have a client who will be crushing rock native to the local site (winery) for hardscape pathways as well as pathways on a vegetated roof.

It looks like if we want to take credit for this material to be treated as a as a nonroof material it should be:

1) Use paving materials with an initial solar reflectance (SR) value of at least 0.33.
2) Use an open-grid pavement system (at least 50% unbound).

So the pathway material should be tested for an SR value or it should be incorporated into an open grid pavement system. Is that correct?

Thank you.

Yes, those are strategies acceptable if you want to claim the associated SF in your compliant area. If you haven't already, you should use the Credit Form to fill in your various areas and see whether you need to include this associated SF, or if you can meet the threshold without it. The weighted calc may work in your favor since you seem to have a fair amount of vegetation at ground level, and a vegetated roof.
