NC-2009 SSc4.4:Alternative Transportation—Parking Capacity

some of existing parking is limestone....

renovation and repurpose of an old school into an office facility. parking capacity will remain the same, but some existing spots (9 spots out of about 85) are limestone. These are now to be converted into paved spots. Can these be counted as existing parking? technically, local ordinances do not allow these to count since the ordinance does not allow gravel/stone parking - but they are well documented (google earth, photos, etc) as being regularly used as parking spots. any one have experience with such a situation w/ this credit?

Michael, For SSc4.4, if no additional spaces are added to the existing parking count, regardless as to whether the spaces are repaved or newly paved, then the project is considered to have "no new parking." Hope this helps.

Is this true for a building replacement project (demo and reconstruct)? If the parking lot is unchanged, can we claim no new parking?

Hi Lyle, Although this is not made clear in the reference guide, there are several LEED interpretations that point to this issue. As long as the new project building is not providing any new parking, aside from the parking that is already on site, you will be able to claim no new parking for SSc4.4. Hope that helps!

thank you, Kimberly. I've tried finding the LIs on the database, but am not having any luck. Could you please identify which LIs are applicable here, so myself and others can reference them? Thank you.

Hi Lyle, The most applicable I could find is Interpretation ID#1531. This interpretation was for v2.2, however it is also applicable to v2009 projects. Thanks!
