Hi,
The service water system in this building is heated by solar thermal collectors only, with no secondary heating system. Appendix G says that I should simulate the baseline building design using the same energy source as the proposed design. In this case, how should I simulate the hot water system? It doesn’t make sense repeating the renewable system in the baseline, as no economy would be shown.

Use an electric system.
The technically correct way to do this is to model an electric water heater in the Baseline and Proposed. Then include the solar hot water system as a renewable energy system in Section 1.6 of the form.
