EBOM-2009 EAc4:On-Site and Off-Site Renewable Energy

On-Site vs. Off-Site

We are working with out Utility Provider and they will be putting solar panels on the roof of our building. They will pay us rent for the space, and in exchange we will recieve RECs from them equal to what the rental charge is. Would LEED consider this be classified as off site, or on-site renewable energy? Thanks

Based on LI 2594, I would say your scenario works for on-site but that you'll need to make sure that the total RECs received are equal or greater than 100% of the system's annual energy output. See here http://www.usgbc.org/leed-interpretations?keys=renewable+PV
