Municipal law requires that our building be completely smoke-free inside. It also bans smoking next to the building, but it’s not as stringent as the 25 foot LEED requirement. Do we have to make another policy that bans smoking within 25 feet?

Signage Directly on Entrance Door?

Has any team ever had an issue with posting the signage DIRECTLY ON the entrance door in lieu of 10' out on a post?  The credit language says "within 10' of the entrance".  On the door seems complaint, but I would like to hear from other teams on this approach.  Thank you!

Hi Lucy, posting signage on the door is definitely acceptable. I've seen many projects successfully achieve the prerequisite using decals on glass doors.

Hello Lucy, That should be okay until signage does not appear to be communicating the interior smoking policy (give the location of sign). If the signage system indicates the exterior smoking policy to occupants that smoking is prohibited at least 25 ft (7.5 m) from all entries, outdoor air intakes, and operable windows. Its fine. Just ensure that the signage is permanent and communicates a compliant exterior smoking policy. You can add narratives as well to confirm it.  Hope it helps! Thanks!

I saw a lot of this signage on the front doors, so I think it's legal.

We have absolutely had the signage on the door.  Often a client will have a single window cling/solid sign that covers their tobacco policy, fire arm policy, etc.  I should point out that these are projects that have a "no tobacco anywhere" policy - it can get a bit more challenging if smoking IS allowed in areas of the site, which wasn't clear if this is the situation on the original post.
