In LEED v4, the 200 yard requirement was removed for shower facilities. I'm working on a rural/suburban university project where the project more than meets the short-term and long-term secure bicycle storage requirements. The intent of the credit is, "To promote bicycling and transportation efficiency and reduce vehicle distance traveled. To improve public health by encouraging utilitarian and recreational physical activity." The university has the Williams Field House, which was obviously built to promote health and encourage activity/exercise. The non-team locker rooms have over 50 shower facilities. The Field House is literally 2 blocks away from the building that is pursuing LEED certification. It is 389 yards from the building to the showers in the Field House. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on how to pursue this credit and prove that there are sufficient showering facilities for any faculty who would choose to bike to work in lieu of drive?

Hi Theresa,
It seems the v4 and v4.1 language require the showers to be on-site or within the LEED Project Boundary.
Would it be possible to create a campus then register a master site?
I think showers within the master site can contribute to multiple buildings...other non-LEED buildings within the master site must be included in the 'number of showers' required calculation.
Although setting up a master site might create more problems then it is worth.
Hope this helps.
