NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Selection baseline cooling system for industry process

I am trying to select the baseline cooling system of a food industry. The process cooling requires more than 60% of total energy demand with temperature level of -44°C and -33°C (freezing circuit NH3). According to ASHRAE90.I 2007 2.3c the provision of ASHRAE do not apply to this system. 1. Is this cooling system really not applicable for LEED NC? 2. If applicable, which cooling system (which COP) can I assume for the. baseline? 3. If not applicable, should I analyse only the energy demand of office areas?

1 - It is and is not applicable. It must be included in the model but it does not have to comply with the mandatory provisions of 90.1 for example. 2 - The baseline should be modeled identical to the proposed and the proposed should be modeled as designed/installed. This assumes you are not attempting to claim any energy savings related to this system. 3 - It is applicable in that it must be included in the models.
