LEED v4 Reference Guide states "applicable roof area excludes roof area covered by mechanical equipment, solar energy panels, skylights, and any other appurtenances." LEED v4 Reference Guide goes on to define appurtenance as "a built-in, nonstructural portion of a roof system, examples include skylights, ventilators, mechanical equipment, partitions, and solar energy panels." You should consider the rooftop patio area as roof material subject to the 82 SRI value requirement. Consider also that LEEDv4 combines roof and nonroof heat island credits from v2009 in the calculation. Will there be an architectural shading device over the rooftop patio?

There is no plan to have any shading device on the rooftop patio.

You'll need to include the rooftop patio area in the calculation and provide SRI value of the material.

A follow up comment, note that LI 10235 (exempting functional space) is not applicable to v4, it can only be applied to v2009. However, project teams can still exclude roof area covered by mechanical equipment, solar energy panels, skylights, and any other appurtenances.

Hi
I am in the same position with a roof top patio on a 6 story building. With a SR-valu of min . 62, the color might not be very pleasant. The patio - being situated in Denmark (cold climate), will only be used on sunny days, so days where this high SR-value will add discomfort to the occupants of the patio. What are you experience? What material have you used? Adn does anymore have any experience with wood with a SR-value which can meet this requirement?
