NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Revised Section 1.4 Form Units

Hi i am working on a project and using the Revised section 1.4 Form since the project was been registered after mars 2013. The lighting part of the Form is a bit confusing. the assumption on the form is that both, proposed and baseline building are modeled base on the space by space or the building area method. this is true for the base line not the proposed. the proposed case is modeled with the actual load. DO we have to input the lighting power for each space in the building or there is a work around. the same for the process load side. any help will be great.

You must use the same methodology for both models. That is why the form does not let you mix them. Process loads must be identical too. If you want to claim process load savings you must use the exceptional calculation method.

in the base line I am using the building type methodology office building 1 W/sqf. the proposed is modeled as designed in accordance with G 3.1.6.a in this case i take the total lighting power for the proposed building and divide it by the building SQF and input it in the form as W/sqf for the hole building.

Using the Building Area Method you take the 1 W/sf for the baseline and enter that value for the lighting in each zone. For the proposed you add up the wattage and divide by the sf and then you use that value in your model in each zone. You do not vary the lighting power density per zone as you have in the proposed design. Yes this seems to violate the model as designed requirement but 90.1 is full of these contradictions. In our experience you will generate more energy savings if you use the space-by-space method and it is more accurate. We never use the building area method.
