NC-2009 MRc4:Recycled Content

Reused aggregate base on site

Our project in Guam used base material extracted on site and gradated for reuse as aggregate sub-base below slabs and pavement on site. Based upon threads on site site, I used the value of aggregate material used on site under MRc4 as recycled content in lieu of MRc3 reuse since the material was not really being "repurposed" and used on another site. GBCI review technical guidance states the material cannot be claimed under MRc4 and should be considered for MRc3 or MRc1. What are your thoughts?

Jim, I have claimed material, like what you describe, before under MRc2 for waste diversion and simultaneously taken credit for it under MRc5 Regional Materials. I have never tried the MRc4 Recycled Content because my concrete was being crushed and not being manufactured with other components into a new product, rather my concrete was being crushed and used in a different manner-it just didn't seem like it met the intent of "recycled content" to me. I also have a project where I intend to claim crushed concrete in the MRc3 credit and MRc5 credit - note that you can't claim MRc3 and MRc2 for the same material. Hope this helps you.
