The project that I'm working on contains a warehouse for shipping sold products. At times, metal products are returned because they are damaged or defective. These products get put in with all the other metal recycling. Will that by ok in terms of this particular LEED credit? These items are not necessarily things used by or for the building, but they are diverted from the landfill. Or would the ongoing products directly used for the building need to be wieghed separately?

Tony, I would say that this is waste generated by the building activities and is appropriate to include.
