According to Interpretation #10209, issued 7/1/2012, it says that if a non-residential SF of a mixed-used building is less than 10% or no greater than 5,000 SF, it is acceptable for the non-residential space to be excluded form bike rack calcs for SSc4.2.
Our building is a residential building with about 500 SF of retail space in the lobby. So my question is, under Table Plf3-1, Space Usage Type, would I still need to include this retail space even though it is exempted in further credits? Or would it not matter for the purposes of this table?
Thanks,
Courtney

Courtney,
This issue has caused a lot of confusion on a number of credits and forms... I believe the interpretation #10209 says we can exclude the retail area from the shower requirement, but not from the bike rack calculations. We should include the area in Table PIf3-1, since it is part of the building and does have FTE that need to be included in the bike users. Since it's probably core and shell space for now, you can use the default FTE and transients densities in CS Appendix 1 of the BD&C Reference Guide.
Hope that helps!

Sounds good, thanks! That is pretty much what I was thinking as well.
