Renovate BD+C v2009 building envelope?

Hello,

my client is a LEED BD+C gold rated office building. They are interested in renovating the aluminum cladding on the building exterior plus adding an additional elevator shaft (to the facade). How does this affect their LEED status? Will they be forfeiting their LEED status? Do they need to recertify?
