Registration Now Open for the Sustainable Construction Leaders Summit 2019!

We are excited to open registration for the Sustainable Construction Leaders Summit 2019! This year’s Summit will take place Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Atlanta in conjunction with Greenbuild. The Summit agenda will be shaped by the steering committee and collective feedback from the group. The day will culminate in a networking event with members of the other Peer Networks hosted by BuildingGreen, including architects, construction leaders, and consultants.

Here are a few things to keep in mind about the event and the network:

  • Going forward, you’ll need to pay an annual membership fee to be in the SCL Peer Network. The added value of membership is cross-sector access to other peer groups, members-only webinars, and BuildingGreen staff time and resources to help with the group’s goals and research.
  • This year’s membership is discounted at 50%; next year it will auto-renew at the full rate of $325.
  • To attend the Summit, you will need to be a member of the SCL Peer Network. This is regular protocol for all BuildingGreen Peer Networks events. If you’re not already a member, you can purchase your membership at the same time as your event registration.

Best,

RoseAnn, for Jerelyn, Nadav, and the rest of the BuildingGreen team

Regarding the agenda development, who is the steering committee? And how is the groups collective feedback submitted and considered? I believe the 2019 agenda should focus on our companies developing 10-year carbon emissions plans targeting a carbon neutrality by 2030.  As an industry, we need to agree on inclusion boundaries for Scope 1 & Scope 2 emissions, and what Scope 3 emissions we can realistically impact. Otherwise we are just whistling past the graveyard.

Hi Conor, Thanks for the questions and suggestion--posting ideas here is a great to inform the agenda for the Summit. The steering group for the SCL generally is our default steering group for the Summit, but if others want to join in the planning, I think that would be great. The steering group currently includes Steven Burke, Jenn Taranto, Stacey Smedley, Jenelle Shapiro, and Patricia Lloyd. They were selected informally for this role, with an eye toward good distribution in terms of company size and location.  Reviewing and updating Steering Group membership is an agenda item for the Summit The process we've traditionally used for developing the Summit agenda with the Sustainable Design Leaders, and used last year for the inaugural SCL Summit, was this:
  1. We work with the steering group to identify a list of potential topics and goals.
  2. We send out a survey to all Summit participants, asking them to rank and comment on the topics.
  3. We work with the Steering group to design an agenda based on that input.
If anyone has other thoughts or suggestions on how to improve the process, that would be great. And suggesting topics on this forum is a great way to get them on the radar, and kick start these important conversations. Does that answer your questions?

Hi everyone, I hope you’re having a great summer so far.  It has been really great to see the forum getting used and valuable conversations happening in lots of different ways as this group continues to gain momentum.  I’m here to remind you that as fantastic as this past year has been for us as a group, there is no substitute for one-on-one in-person connection and discussion which is why it is so important that if you’re able to make it to the SCL summit the day before Greenbuild you should absolutely do it.   This year is a little different in that in order to attend the summit you need to opt into becoming a full SCL member by paying an annual membership fee which this year is $165.  The benefits of joining as a member are the ability to attend the annual summits, the support of Building Green and their team in our ongoing research and efforts to create change in our industry, access to a shared discussion board with other sustainability professionals in our industry from design, engineering, and consulting, and both construction-focused and cross-disciplinary webinars on trending topics. Our network and our impact will only be as strong as the people in the group, so I hope that you all become members, and I hope that you all register to attend the Summit.  We are in the process of building the agenda - YES CONOR, we WILL be talking about Carbon! -  and will share more information as that becomes available.  There will also be a networking event with sustainability leaders from other industries plus a show+tell after our Summit session Tuesday, so yet another reason to make sure to join us.  We want to make sure that you all have this in your schedules and get the funding for it ahead of time - $565 all-in: $400 for the summit and $165 for year 1 membership to the SCL group. Please let us know if you have any questions, and have a happy and safe Fourth of July

Hi folks, Things are moving along well with plans for the Summit--we have 19 officially registered, and others who are planning to come but haven't registered yet. There is still room for more, and, as Steven mentioned, this face-to-face time together is really valuable for us as a network. So, in case you need another nudge to commit, here is the invitation again, with a few updated details:   Registration is now open for the Sustainable Construction Leaders Summit 2019! This year’s Summit will take place Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 9:00am to 5:00pm in Atlanta, in conjunction with Greenbuild. The Summit agenda will be shaped by the steering committee using collective feedback from the group in a pre-summit survey. The day will culminate in a networking event with members of the other Peer Networks hosted by BuildingGreen, including architects, construction leaders, and consultants.  We know that some people are interested in the EC3 Tool roll-out that’s also happening that day. Good news—Stacy has offered to provide our own custom version of the roll-out during our Summit, so you don’t have to choose between the two. You’ll get set up with your own test project AND hear unfiltered feedback from pilot users. Here are a few things to keep in mind about the Sustainable Construction Leaders Summit and the SCL network:
  • Going forward, you’ll need to pay an annual membership fee to be in the SCL Peer Network. The added value of membership is cross-sector access to other peer groups, members-only webinars, and BuildingGreen staff time and resources to help with the group’s goals and research.
  • This year’s membership is discounted at 50%; next year it will auto-renew at the full rate of $325.
  • To attend the Summit, you will need to be a member of the SCL Peer Network. This is regular protocol for all BuildingGreen Peer Networks events. The Summit registration fee is $400, and the reduced rate membership is $165. If you’re not already a member, you can purchase your membership at the same time as your event registration.
