Register now for the IRA Funding follow-up webinar!

Hi everyone,

Join us for the webinar, "IRA Funding with a Tax Expert Part 2: Updates and  Clarifications" on Tuesday April 2nd at 3pm ET!

Register here and please feel free to invite anyone from your firms to join.

The great presenter from Energy Tax Savers, Jacob Goldman, is returning for a follow-up session for our networks on the IRA tax credits and deductions available for commercial and multifamily properties. Here’s the catch: everyone coming MUST watch Part 1 first. There won’t be time to review all the details Jacob covered last time AND get into all the updates that have happened since, not to mention answering your questions. There is also good news: if you didn’t already get a CEU by joining us for the live presentation of Part 1, you can now earn an AIA and GBCI CEU by watching the recording (and taking the quiz, of course). Part 2 will also be recorded.

If you have any questions please email me at amanda@buildinggreen.com or comment below. We look forward to seeing you then!

Hi folks, Jacob is inviting any questions you might have in advance of next Tuesday's webinar so he can be sure to come in prepared. One thing I’ve been hearing is that it’s challenging to convince some clients to take advantage of the ITC credits because they still have to come up with the capital to pay for the systems up front, and because there is some perceived uncertainty about whether the promised credits will actually materialize at the end. What else are you hoping to learn? Feel free to post questions here, or email me directly with them. I'll compile what I have for him on Monday morning, so send anything my way by 10am eastern time. Thanks, Nadav <nadav@buildinggreen.com>

Specifically as relates to public sector projects, I would love to hear the solutions to the concerns you identified regarding having the capital to pay up front and then not knowing with 100% certainty whether the project will actually receive the direct pay incentive (becasue these design decisions are often made years after the budget is approved and years before the incentive will be collected).  I would also like to learn more about specifically what design features are included in the clean electricity ITC; where is this information easily found?  I'd like to understand how 48(e), 48E, and 48E(h) are related and how they differ. I'd like to know if Designed to Earn the ENERGY STAR (for commercial/institutional projects) contributes to compliance with any of the incentives

Hello - thanks for scheduling the follow-up session! We are hearing significantly different perspectives regarding funding for public/non-profit clients via the Section 179D tax deduction. While many presentations and webinars note that it can and should be split with public clients (50/50 as a starting point), I've heard some firms say they legally cannot split it with clients. Conversely, in a recent webinar an owner's rep stated that it is "predatory" and "almost a scam" for design firms not to split it. Because it's a tax deduction, the amount and timing are definitely complicated and possibly prohibitive. Since taxes for S Corps are paid by individual shareholders rather the the corporation, the logistics and cashflow are particularly challenging. I would welcome discussion and clarifications! (Section 48 funding is much more straightforward!)

Ditto Mark! Our questions are also revolving around this deduction and how the client can take advantage of it. One presenter shared a scenario in which the owner could also sell this on the market or transfer it in form of a fee negotiation – 50% off for the client – 50% for the designer or team. Also have heard the contractor is more likely to get the benefit if they meet labor requirements. It would be really helpful to hear a couple of different case studies or scenarios on this one. Thanks for hosting this session BG – looking forward to it! Hi All: It would be great to get some clarity on the deduction options for designers on major commercial renovation projects. Eg. 179D versus TCJA. Also, review guidelines for construction managers who are providing technical assistance on projects, either through preconstruction design assist efforts or contracting directly with architects and engineers in design build scenarios. What qualifies as technical assistance?  This is a hot topic, thanks for arranging and looking forward to it! John
