Hello. I had a question about who can fill the role as the CxA for the enhanced credit. The case is where an engineering firm was hired by the architect to complete the civil/land development work. Can the same engineering firm also be hired by the owner to be the enhanced CxA to complete the commissioning of the MEP systems?

I asked GBCI this question about a month ago, just followed up to check on the response...will let you know what I hear. Our project is in the exact same situation, reviewing Cx proposals including one from the firm handling the civil work.

I had a similar situation on a v2009 project (same firm but completely separate teams doing civil design and fundamental and enhanced commissioning) and it was fine. Will be following to see if there are any changes per v4.

Interesting response, Summer. I would not have thought this would work as civil engineering is definitely part of the design team. While I agree that this does not pose any real practice problems (assuming the firm has the required experience of course), it would seem to raise a red flag with GBCI in my opinion. Also, not sure how much attention reviewers would be paying on this kind of arrangement as they would for the MEP engineer doing the Cx.

Hi, we had GBCI confirm that the same firm cannot provide civil and Cx. The financial relationship means it is not an independent 3rd party even though the work is separate.
