Hello,
I'm wondering which are the quantifiable metrics or thresholds for the different design patterns on 14 Patterns of Biophillic Design. So far I have only seen an example with quantifiable metrics for potted plans on the design pattern "Nature in the space" and want to know the design strategies where these metrics are applicable.

I'm glad to have found a post about the quantifiable metrics as this is an area that I could benefit from some clarity. Our project is a small, early childhood education center that uses the following strategies, to list a few: visual connection with nature, dynamic & diffuse lighting, connection with natural systems. I imagine a strategy such as Dynamic & Diffuse Lighting could be quantified using daylight levels measured in footcandles throughout the day, however this kind of study would require additional costs simply for the purpose of providing data as well as a threshold to meet a certain standard. Instead, we identified the main cardinal directions in which natural light is provided to the space. For connection with Natural Systems, you can read about the numerous systems in Kellert/Heerwagen/Mador's Biophilic Design. In our case, we opted to highlight key natural systems that are pertinent to the childcare center's curriculum. For example, students are often introduced to the concept of seasons and weather/climate at this age - the built space provides high quality visual and physical access to these systems through floor-to-ceiling windows, direct outdoor access, and natural landscaping surrounding the building.
