NC-v4 LTc7:Reduced parking footprint

Project with only one parking space

If a project has only one car parking space (and assuming that this number is wel below Parking Consulting Council recommendations for the project type) how can it comply with LTc7 (car pool space) and LTc8 (green vehicle space and electric vehicle charging station)?

For example, would a project that provide only one parking space comply with LTc8 if this parking space was reserved for green vehicles and endowed with a electrical vehicle supply equipment?

And if the project also reserved that parking space for carpool (therefore, only allowing its use by carpool electric green vehicles), would it comply also with LTc7?

Good question.

Hi Pedro, I'm working on a project right now with a similar situation. We are submitting a special request to GBCI. You can explain in great detail why you only need one parking space and why it can't be limited to just EV users even if it has EV availability. My guess is that it can't be double counted for both credits, but I don't know for sure. Maybe worth a CIR.  On the bright side - do you only have one parking space because you are close to public transportation? I don't know the nature of your project, but maybe you can gain back those missed points in the other,  more credit intensive LT credits.

Hi Calie, thank you for your feedback on this subject. I submitted this question to USGBC and got the following answer:   «To meet LT credit Green Vehicles the team will need to reserve a space for EV fueling in addition to the preferred parking for green vehicles. This requires a minimum of two spaces to achieve the credit point. If the Owner feels strongly for some reason about providing an EV fueling station and parking for a Green Vehicle, the team could make a proposal via formal Credit Interpretation Request (CIR).

That being said, for LT credit Reduced Parking Footprint, if the vehicle parking capacity for the project is one (1), the project should be able to earn the 1 point. Also, if the team decides to give up the one parking space, the project could also ear the exemplary performance credit (which would give you the same number of points as earning Reduced Parking Footprint and Green Vehicles).

However, the teams may not double-count the same parking space for green vehicles, EV fueling, and/or carpools.»   Regards, Pedro
