NC-2009 IEQc4.1:Low-Emitting Materials—Adhesives and Sealants

Pressure Sensitive Tape and Other Tapes

I keep being asked if Pressure Sensitive Tape qualifies as an adhesive subject to review for EQ c4.1. Normally I'd say no but some carpet installations use similar products. So would other tapes, such as duct tape for mechancial applications, be reviewed? I see some manufacturers claim "Low VOCs" but offer no data. Has anyone encountered a problem with reviewers or is there a CIR out there that addresses? Thanks!

Generally speaking tapes of any kind are not addressed by any of the IEQ 4 credits. While they do involve adhesives, they tend to not be high VOC content in comparison with other types of adhesives, and the paper or plastic part of the tape helps to prevent exposure to air (and therefore volatility).
