NC-v4 MRc3:Building product disclosure and optimization - sourcing of raw materials

Post-industrial and pre-consumer

Hi all,

On some product documentations, the manufacturer has listed 'post-consumer and post-industrial' recycled content. Can we assume post-industrial to be the same as pre-consumer or does it depend on product type? Note- this is TPO roofing that I am specifically interested in.

Thanks,

Kavita

Yes, post-industrial is the same as pre-consumer. From the LEED glossary - preconsumer recycled content: matter diverted from the waste stream during the manufacturing process, determined as the percentage of material, by weight. Examples include planer shavings, sawdust, bagasse, walnut shells, culls, trimmed materials, overissue publications, and obsolete inventories. The designation excludes rework, regrind, or scrap materials capable of being reclaimed within the same process that generated them (ISO 14021). Formerly known as postindustrial content.
