Greeting.
Can anyone advise wheter the canopy connected between two building is consider as roof or non roof according to the SSc5 Heat Island Reduction. The under canopy is road and parking. I personnally belive that this area is considered as non roof and the canopy is regarded as architectural devices which requires initial SR of at least 0.33 to meet the non roof measures requirement.

Dear Ekkapharb, the canopy would be a system shading the hardscape area below. Roof areas are defined as areas above a conditioned space. The requirement for the credit in your specific case can be met either by the canopy if it has a complying reflectance as architectural shading structure, or you can ingnore it and provide compliance information for the hardscape that is below the canopy, which is in your case the road and parking.
In any case don´t double count the area.

Hi Ekkapharb,
Yes, you are right, based on your description above these canopy is consider as nonroof area as it is cover unconditioned outdoor space. And yes, based on nonroof category in table 3 Head Island Reduction credit, you can include them as shading architectural devices or structures and the materials must have 3-year aged SR value of at least 0.28, or initial SR of at least 0.33 (page 202).
