Hello, I am working on a project located in San Jose which has hired a waste hauler that undergoes third-party verification to confirm their waste diversion rates. This meets the requirement of Pilot credit 87. Note to demonstrate compliance the following is required: 1) Documentation confirming that the facility or facilities that received materials from the project was "certified" over the timeframe that waste was generated on the project and sent to the processing facility, 2) Calculations demonstrating that the required percentage of commingled construction waste is sent to a facility that has a current third-party verified facility recycling rate, and 3) The recycling rates applied to the project's waste generation is the weighted average for the facility over the time in which the project sent materials to the facility.
Additionally, projects pursue pilot credits must subscribe to the LEED User forum so I am currently doing so.

we have found that in getting certified by a third party the waste companies have the documentation and provide the documentation that is required for the credit

As several have noted the waste company has to be "certified" and need to be able to obtain the documentation on the certification. The system is for the hauler to sort the waste so actually it is easier on the site but I recommend that you get early and frequent reports to endure that they are sorting the material correctly and that you are meeting the threshold. Had a project that dropped the certified sorting station and move to another that was not certified. The project lost the point since we could not get reports at the end.
