Overground parking structure

Hello, I am working on a project (very big retail rectangular mall) which has an overground parking building (4 stories above ground) attached to it from one side. The 3 remaining sides are completely open to the external environment. The parking is clearly naturally ventilated, but I'm not sure how to demonstrate compliance with ASHRAE 62.1 Section 5.1. The area of each parking level is ~100,000 ft2, so the requirement of "within 25 ft disance from operable walls / openings to the outdoors" is clearly not applicable. That being said, I guess the only available option is the "Engineered Natural Ventilation", whereby the Mechanical Engineers studies the feasibility of natural ventilation by looking into the wind speeds, orientations, etc. Provided that the feasibility study confirms that adequate natural ventilation will occur, then I think the USGBC will accept this. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

I would not consider a parking garage to fall under the requirements of Section 5.1. See Table 6-4 where there is a requirement of 0.75 CFM/sf for Parking Garages. Note C waives this requirement if two or more walls are at least 50% open to the outside. If that is the case then you comply with the requirements or ASHRAE 62.1 - 2007. If not then you need to add exhaust.

Thank you Andrew, This note 'C' completely slipped off my head! Best, Omar
