Organizations supporting sustained climate action

Hello Sustainability Leaders,

Great to see some of you at Greenbuild last week.  Thanks to all who responded to Nadav’s post-election blues post.  Lots of helpful insights and sentiments that left me very grateful to be part of this community.  On a related note, since the election I’ve been asked by people in our office and in life if there are charities or organizations that would be good to donate to at this time.  Specifically, organizations that are well positioned to defend existing actions towards climate, environmental justice, resiliency, etc. and find creative avenues to keep our industry and country moving forward in the face of anticipated setbacks/obstacles at the federal level.  I thought I would put this question to the group and see what it stirs up.  If anyone has suggestions please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Louis

The NRDC, National Resources Defense Council is one that I support, they sued Trump’s first administration more than 163x and won over 90% of the resolved cases. There are others in my donation pool, but this one comes to the top of my list. Earthjustice is also a worthy legal organization. They are working with the Washington state AG's office to defend the state building code council's leading energy code against attacks, including this thrilling legal battle (Riviera v Kjell Anderson). While I have no personal liability, I'm not just watching this one from the sidelines. https://earthjustice.org/ https://earthjustice.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/34-2024.06.27-motion-to-intervene.pdf -Kjell Kjell Anderson FAIA, LEED Fellow Principal, Director of Sustainable Design LMN Architects lmnarchitects.com M 206 812 6546 O 206 682 3460 S Linkedin | X | Instagram

NRDC and Earth Justice are also at the top of my list. Also EDF is up there especially due to their work on: methane satellite, healthy communities, and regenerative farming (bringing in the Farmers Business Network). And then there is RMI, IFAW, and Rewiring America. There are so many, maybe over 50, that I get advertising from (once you get on a list with one! ….).  Which is hopeful, but it's real work to understand where to focus.  What do you all think of “Green America”?

I would add Habitable (previously known as Healthy Building Network) - they do a lot of foundational research.
