Healthcare-v2009 WEc2:Water use reduction - measurement and verification

Option D: Calibrated Simulation

The WEc2 template references US DOE’s International Performance Measurement and Verification (IPMVP) Option D: Calibrated Simulation as the approved method for the M&V plan. It seems like this was just a cut and paste from the NC M&V credit. I have not found a computer modeling program that is specific to water usage. Are there any? Would a spreadsheet calculation work?

Hi Brett. Im struggeling with the same issues, see below. My initial guess was that a spreadsheet would do fine. Another options is to use the first years consumption as baseline (as Susan points out). However, I think that USGBC needs to be more specific regarding this credit.

If you consider what your drivers are for water usage in the various end-uses you'd find a good match against your energy model for the cooling tower portion. The other items generally wouldn't be modeled against weather. A spreadsheet calculation can still be a "model" -- and in this case is probably the appropriate level of detail to verify the usage which is more dependent on the building occupancy and frequency of usage than other factors. You can still use a spreadsheet to calibrate your "modeled" usage against the monitored quantities (if the project has the submeters) and then model the savings by adjusting the spreadsheet's usage rates now that you've determined the quantity of uses.

Brett, please see the response I just posted to this form - I think it addresses at least some of your questions. Better late than never?

We have an issue in how to prepare the Measurement and Verification (IPMVP) Option D: Calibrated Simulation for Water.. Can any one help me how to proceed?
