NC-v4.1 MRc1:Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction

Option 4: Baseline Building: Major Renovation

Dear All,

we are aiming for Option 4 in the use case Major Renovation. We are considering what the reference building could look like, since the structural framework of the existing building, an older concrete structure, will be completely retained. In the context of the new construction, we are only optimizing the facade, interior finishing, and building services. For Option 4 in this use case, does the structural framework of the existing building need to be included in the calculations? Would one use the same structural framework for the reference building? New reinforced concrete structures would make it more difficult to achieve reductions in the impact categories by comparison. Perhaps the comparison between demolition and new construction versus renovation could be a possible scenario. Can someone share their experiences regarding what is recognized by the USGBC for the use case Renovation and Option 4? Many thanks in advance!
