EBOM-v4 WEp1:Indoor water use reduction

Option 1: Calculated Water

I am working on WE prerequisite for Indoor water use reduction and we decided to go with the 1st option. I am using the indoor water calculator but I have questions on if I have to input all existing fixtures even if their rates are the same. For instance, we have women restrooms with 8 toilet(female) fixtures with a rate of 1.6 gpf. Should I input this same information 8 times to account for the number of fixtures? or just inputting one time this information for all equal fixtures would be enough? Also, do we have to be below the maximum to be complying with the prerequisite? In addition, as a result of this prerequisite we have a baseline which is based on the Uniform Plumbing code, the design consumption, and the maximum consumption. In order to achieve points for the WE credit: indoor water use reduction, we need to consider a reduction based on the actual design, vs the design during performance period? Or do we have to consider the uniform plumbing baseline and from there the water reduction?

Hi Ileana! As long as you have the same type of fixture per gender you do not need to deal with the amount of fixtures. Simply enter once the type of fixture and its flush rate and enter 100% in the percentage of occupants. In order to comply with the prerequisite you have to achieve a 20% reduction in aggregate. That said, if one type of fixtures with significant impact on water use such as the flush fixtures does not fall below its baseline then a drastic reduction in other type of fixtures will be necessary. Your baseline water usage is calculated using the fixtures baseline rates (Table 1, p.136) and then the total is increased by 120% or 150% depending on the year of building completion (p.135). You may need to make several attempts when completing the excel spreadsheet in order to understand the best path for your building.

Thank you for your answer Charalampos, So,If I have two types of fixture rates at the same building for instance in warehouse we have flush rates of 1.4 and a urinal 1.6, and all other restrooms have a flush rate of 1.6 and waterless urinals. All fixtures are accessible to all occupants in the building, although the main usage for warehouse fixtures is given by its employees. Do I have to enter a different group to take that into account? The 20% reduction has to be achieved to comply with the prerequisite or did you meant credit? because for the prerequisite I just see the requirements of the calculated water use and a fixture and fittings replacement and retrofit policy. So according to the year of the building completion my maximum is 120%, but my question was, whether if I have to achieve a reduction in that maximum? or in the baseline calculated using the fixture baseline rates?

First of all, the 20% was the threshold for v2009 which is no longer required for v4. So yes, if you achieve 20% you will earn 3 extra points. Accordingly, percentage below maximum must be 0% for prerequisite compliance and that is compared to the maximum (120%) and not the baseline flow rates. In order to address the different types of fixtures either make an estimate of the percentage of users that use each type of fixture and enter them altogether in the spreadsheet or add the different user groups per fixture type. In fact, both approaches would result in the same calculation.
