NC-v4 SSc3:Open space

Open space

Hi

If our project is providing vegetated open space which would be accessible to all building users, do we comply ?  Is it mandatory to provide infrastructure such as benches etc to promote social activities/interaction  ?

Hello Neetika:  You need to provide descriptions/narratives how the open space is physically accessible to building user and also should meet one or more of the following criteria:  · Pedestrian-oriented paving or turf area with physical site elements that accommodate outdoor social activities
· Recreation-oriented paving or turf area with physical site elements that encourage physical activity
· Garden space with a diversity of vegetation types and species that provide opportunities for year-round visual interest
· Garden space dedicated to community gardens or urban food production
· Preserved or created habitat that meets the criteria of SS Credit Site Development - Protect or Restore Habitat and also includes elements of human interaction
  Thanks!

Thanks Bipin  Our project will have pedestrian oriented paving, and vegetated green space. However our project being a gas station im doubtful on whether the open space will be used for recreation/social activities considering users will just visit to fuel their vehicles or shop at the convenience store. Can we consider this as a garden space since we are proposing diversity of vegetation and not just turf ??

Hello Neetika, It seems the project is clearly attempting" Garden space with a diversity of vegetation types and species that provide opportunities for year-round visual interest" . So your consideration is correct.  Also, you can include your project limitation being gas station in the SC section, so it clear for the reviewer to understand your circumstances. But project is clearly attempting given condition so I don't think there will be any issues.  Thanks!
