Facilitating Engagement and Collaboration in Virtual Meetings (or, Avoiding a Goat Rodeo with Many Awkward Silences*)
If you weren't already sitting in virtual meetings every day... We all are now. So how do we facilitate an online meeting in which everyone is focused, engaged, heard, collaborating and problem-solving in an efficient, meaningful way? We can help.
During last winter's SDL summit, we offered a pre-summit workshop on collaborative facilitation. Now that we’re all working in a virtual world, workshop facilitator Julie Huffaker has offered to revisit relevant tools and techniques through the lens of virtual connection.
You'll walk out of this 90-minute virtual workshop with:
- Several ways to transform the often-discombobulating and time-wasting first five minutes (people are late, Joe can't get his camera on, someone is crunching loudly) into a smooth, engaging, and focused start
- Techniques for deliberately building group openness and connection (read: psychological safety) as you go
- Three specific strategies for facilitating robust group collaboration, including using breakout groups, self-facilitation, and shared digital spaces
We hope you'll also leave the meeting with a new sense of optimism that it's not only possible to have a superb virtual meeting, but you're well on your way to facilitating one.
