NC-v4 EAc2:Optimize energy performance

Offsite Renewable Energy Production

Hi,

one of our clients is considering the acquisition of renewable energy (electricity) from an off-site PV plant, located within the same utility service area. The contract between our client and the PV plant OWNER will:

  1. be a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a minimum duration of 10 years (i.e., our client will assume the compromise of buying a certain amount of the renewable electric energy produced in the off-site PV plant for a minimum period of 10 years);
  2. include a specific clause ensuring that the environmental benefits of this energy will not be used for any other purpose (i.e., the GO’s associated with the renewable energy acquired by the project will be canceled);

The question is: is this renewable energy eligible for credits EA c2 (energy performance), EAc5 (renewable energy) and EAc7 (green power)?

We will be waiting for your feedback,

It counts toward EAc2 and EAc5. For EAc7 it reduces the energy use which counts under this credit but you still need to purchase green power or offsets for any energy use consumed by the building beyond what the renewable energy purchase provides.
