Hi,
For one of our projects in the MENA region, there is no landscape area at all due to the nature of the project. Is this credit not applicable in that case and we are not eligible for any points
or
can we apply for option 1 No irrigation required and get points as we dont have any landscape area, hence no irrigation required.
I would like to think the former to be right, but just wanted to be sure. Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Hi Sonali,
This prerequisite is still applicable. LEED Guide (Step-By-Step-Guidance- WEPC1 step 4) states
"Option 1 is for projects that do not require irrigation, based on the location and landscape design. Projects that have no landscape area automatically achieve this prerequisite."

The above response is correct - projects with no landscape area automatically meet the Prereq requirements, but are not eligible for any points under the credit.

I respectfully disagree with emily reese moody. While it's correct that projects without landscape areas automatically meet the prerequisite requirements, if your project has no landscaping and doesn't require outdoor water for irrigation, you should still be able to earn the points by proving that no potable water or irrigation is needed for outdoor use. This effectively results in 100% water savings, allowing you to achieve the full 2 points.

But you do not have baseline to compare with.

v2009 projects did not receive points when the project did not include any landscape areas.
v4 projects can receive points when the project does not include any landscape areas. per the v4 reference guide "the credit can also be achieved by projects that have no landscape area".
Great discussion All!!
the point is "project teams should not have to do bad to get credit for good". Similar situation: project is designed to be off the grid, as such there will be no utility provided electric/natural gas. Can the project achieve the Demand Response / Grid Harmonization credit? the answer is YES because the project operates in a 'Demand Response' sequence every hour of the year.

Yes, refguide states that the credit can also be achieved by projects that have no landscape area.
Still - for me it's illogical, since it's "comparative" credit – your project vs baseline you must "outnumber".
Example with the "demand responce" is irrelevant, since it's not comparative, it's yes or no credit.
But it's as is.
