Hi
We are working at the project in MLO lighting zones 3 that have no any exterior lights except landscaping lighting (lighting for trees and lighting into the benches, which have not uplight illumination). Am I right that we can exempt this illumination according with “Exemptions from Uplight and Light Trespass Requirements”? So if the landscaping lighting automatically turned off from midnight until 6 a.m., will we earn the point for this credit?

Hello Lada,
Yes, it is possible to earn 1 point for this credit. For projects with no any exterior lights and including exemptions, provide LEED Form indicating MLO zone. Additionally, provide a narrative explaining projects no exterior lights condition and exemptions within special circumstances section of form or within additional documentation. If applicable, provide exterior lighting plan to show exempted lights and no exterior lights on project. Usually exterior rendering or photograph should do it.
Hope it helps. Thank you!

Project is in MLO 3. We seek uplighting trees past midnight in park for security. Exempt or non exempt if controlled separately from nonexempt lighting?

In MLO 3, can certain park tree lights be controlled by motion detectors after midnight for security?

Motion controlled lights are not exempt. This credit assumes worst case scenario.
Landscape lighting needs to be turned off after midnight per the exemption.
