Hi Peter, Yes and no. The green cleaning plan and the typical requirements apply only to the common areas. However, the following need to be incorporated also: For residences: a. Select six major cleaning needs and identify compliant products that will be supplied to meet these needs. Note that one cleaner may address several cleaning functions. Examples of cleaning needs include, but are not limited to: counter, sink, tub/shower, tile, limescale remover, toilet, hard flooring, laundry detergent, laundry bleach and windows. b. Provide an estimated 6 month supply of these products to residents, as well as information on how to easily purchase refills and/or replacements. c. Educate the residents on the green cleaning concepts and products via discussion and written materials upon move-in and periodically thereafter. Additionally, if the building contains retail tenants, actively educate them on the cleaning products, standards and protocols that are being used in the common areas. Include education about the importance of hand hygiene.

Hi Peter and Michelle, The path that Michelle has laid out is only applicable to BD&C projects pursuing an ID credit for green cleaning. For EBOM projects, please see LEED Interpretation 10099 (http://www.usgbc.org/leed-interpretations?keys=10099), which states: "For IEQ Prerequisite 3: Green Cleaning Policy and IEQc3.1: Green Cleaning-High-Performance Cleaning Program, the green cleaning policy and program includes resident areas. Additional steps should be taken to educate the residents on the green cleaning concepts and recommended products via discussion and written materials upon move-in and periodically thereafter. Examples of acceptable steps could include a written program, a brochure, a coupon for discounted purchase, or a bulk supply of cleaning supplies available at maintenance office. "For existing building projects with multi-family spaces attempting IEQ Credit 3.3: Green Cleaning- Purchase of Sustainable Cleaning Products and Materials the percent of total annual purchases must include all cleaning purchases made for the building, regardless of who purchased the products (residents or building staff)."
