I've run into many instances where I was less than confident in the validity of recycling data from haulers. This being said, it was a nice change of pace working with a verified hauler that was CORR certified. Our experience was seamless for this project for a few reasons: we worked with a General Contractor who was very familiar with the LEED process and ensured we partnered up with the right party early on, and our project location made it easy to pursue this pilot credit as the CORR certified facility was located close to the site. I think it's important to hold our partners to a higher standard but also wonder how feasible this is in many areas of the country where recycling of basic materials isn't even an option, let alone finding a verified hauler/facility that's close in proximity. This being said, the whole point of what we do here is to drive change so the more we push for these lofty goals, the greater the likelihood that these practices become standard.

Completely agree Kristin! Here in DC we only have ONE waste hauler at this time that is Certified by the RCI. We're very excited to see this credit holding our waste haulers to a higher standard and protocol, but are certainly hoping to see this pilot credit drive change in our market and many other areas of the country. Would love to know if other Project Teams in major markets are having issues finding certified waste haulers.
