This is not the first time we have pursued this credit. We ended up doing new materials/products for this project compared to others. We selected our products based on which had available source documentation, such as EPDs, HPDs, SDS, etc. We plan to evaluate more materials in this manner, especially new products that we are not as familiar with.
I believe that having an informed/experienced member of the design team fill out the spreadsheet (with input from the manufacturer) is better than having the manufacturer fill out the spreadsheet directly, since it may be harder for a manufacturer rep to remain unbiased.
I also believe this is a great use-case for A.I. where the documents can be uploaded into A.I. as source material to answer specific questions asked of it, and then it can explain (using info off the internet) the pros/cons and health impacts, etc, of the various components. This would also help less-informed/less-experienced design teams understand the overall impact of a product/material on the environment and health of the building, without having to spend a lot of time researching.
