Were Laura’s questions from April 7th ever resolved? I just input some data for a new project and am also getting a score over 100. I think that some units are off between what EC outputs and the code of the calculator. Some information to help debug the calculator:
When I enter my primary energy in MJ (as EC has it) the graph of my LCA impacts shows primary energy dominating the LCA score at 18, with acidification and ozone at about 1. All of the other impacts don’t show up on the graph. The LCA score total was 142. (7 LEED points)
In a second scenario I entered the same data, but divided the energy by the building area to get MJ/SF (as the calculator says). In this case energy went to essentially zero (not a surprise), and it appears everything else stayed the same. Now Acidification and Ozone were the dominant contributors. (at 1.2 and 2). This resulted in an LCA score of about 160. (7 LEED points)
Finally, I ran some admittedly arbitrary scenarios. In these I kept my energy input the same (MJ), but multiplied my WRU, GWP, HH, Eutorphication and Smog values by 1,000. (this was a wild guess based on my comment from last September that some of the units were off). In this case my steel and concrete building got a LCA score of 0. However, using the same methodology but telling EC that my building was wood resulted in an LCA score of 30.
Something seems off. Can you please have someone check on this and report back?
Thanks!
