Hi We are working on creating an energy Model for LEED for Data center and I am just confused on what approach should I take?
a. The data center has vaults which will be rented in the future so we have no idea on the power density in these vaults but we know the peak so how should I model that? Can use the peak power density that we have designed for the vaults?
b. Do I need to create 3 model Proposed model with full IT loading, proposed model with initial IT loading, baseline with Full IT looading? What if I am able to show the savings that i am targeting by creating 2 models proposed with full IT load and baseline with full IT load?
c. Do i need to model the pods that are sitting outside the building which are only used in the case of emergency for backup power?
Thanks in advance!

a. yes
b. You need 4, baseline should be at full and initial IT loads.
c. You would only model emergency power usage if you expect it be activiated in any given year.

Thanks Marcus for the reply, When you say initial IT loading this DC will be rented by the tenants , so we dont know the initial IT load what should we do in that case?
Thanks!

Will you know any of it by the time you will be submitting for LEED? If not then I think you will have the show the required savings at the full IT load only. You are right about the three models, the others are optional. The Reference Guide instructions provide additional destails on the modeling requirements.

thats Correct marcus we wont have that information at the time we will be submitting for LEED and the percent savings that we are targetting can be achieved by creating both proposed and baseline with full IT load.
Thanks Marcus!

Marcus, In this case should we go with the same MEP calculator that we use for any other building or for datcenter there is a different MEP calculator?
Thanks!

There is an additional calculator that addresses the IT loads only. So you submit this and the regular MEPC. https://www.usgbc.org/resources/minimum-energy-performance-data-center-c...

Thanks Marcus, looking at this datasheet it says we can submit it if we are claiming any energy savings from IT loads.
