I am having difficulty understanding the modelling requirements for this prerequisite.
Option 1 Whole Bulding Energy Simulation requires an energy simulation model to be done. It states "An energy model of the proposed design is a required for a prerequisite compliance under Option 1". But its not mandatory to produce a preliminary energy model? It states "Although not required for this prerequisite, preparation of a preliminary model can facilitate achieving related credit" I am not sure what is the difference?
My second question: For all the 3 pathways: Option 1 Whole Building Simulation, ASHRAE 50% Advanced Energy Design Guide, Advanced Buildings Core Performance Guide, do I need to produce a baseline energy simulation?
How does one show compliance to Option 2 and 3 in the design process? Shouldnt there be a model?

A preliminary model is one created during design and used to help design decision-making. The required energy model is a final model of the project as designed after the design is complete. For the prerequisite you do not have to do a preliminary model. You do have to do a prelimiary model to earn points under the Optimize Energy Performance Credit.
You do not do any simulation for Options 2 and 3. You show compliance prescriptively. Essentially there are a list of energy efficiency measures and you need to show that you meet or exceed them all in order to demonstrate compliance. Again no modeling needed.

Thank you for your reply. This is more clear now. But for Option 1, do I need to make an energy model to obtain the prerequisite? Otherwise, how can I prove reduction of 5% from ASHRAE 90.1 baseline?

I just noticed that you posted un LEED V4.1 which is different than v4.0.
In 4.1 you can demonstrate compliance with the prerequisite three ways, precriptively, Section 11 or Appendix G. The Prescriptive complaince path does not require any modeling. The other two paths do require modeling.
In 4.0 for Options 2 and 3 you can demonstrate prescriptive comliance with the portions of the referenced standards cited in the rating system requirement to meet the requirements of this prerequisite. No modeling required.

Hi Marcus,
I have an ID+C project v4.1, can you clarify please if to meet this prereq via the prescriptive path, does this means the project (i.e., client is a tenant opccupying 1 floor in a office buidling) also needs to meet the mandatory provisions in Section 5-10 that relates to base building e.g, building envelope, HVAC, etc. ? Or the mandatory provision in Sectin 5-10 only applies to whatever its in this ID fitout scope of work?
Much appreciated.

There is a long standing rule for ID+C projects that you are only held to items within the scope of work of the project. SO long as your project work meets the mandatory provisions you should be fine.
